Founded in 1929, The Dallas Foundation prides itself on being the first community foundation in Texas. Every year, they fund nonprofits, scholarships, and grants through their generous supporters. Learn more about this community-supporting foundation and its incredible works.
The Dallas Foundation raises millions to fund the community, but it didn't always start that way. After its founding, it would be a decade before they successfully offered their first $1000 grant. Their next milestone wouldn't come until 1979, where that $1000 grant increased to $100,000 towards the Dallas Public Library. Though it was a long and difficult journey, it most certainly paid off. They only had one full-time employee in 1987, and now they have an entire board of supporters and those they support.
On their website, you can donate to a myriad of nonprofit organizations The Dallas Foundation supports. Their priorities are on companion animal funding and early learning, but they also list the ACTS Foundation (focused on eliminating poverty), emergency relief funds, and so much more.
Not only does The Dallas Foundation support current charitable organizations, but they also seek to serve the upcoming generations of givers and volunteers through their program Good Works Under 40. This fund inspires new changes in Dallas and across the world. Each year two lucky winners receive this grant through their first place finalist and People's Choice Award.
This community-supporting foundation offers and encourages others to create academic scholarships used to fund students' schooling journeys. Zavier Wingham, a recipient of a scholarship, said, "Some might think that a scholarship is just money... I felt that I got an extra lifeline, another system of support for years to come."
